Before entering the IT field I was an Engineer for 17 years.  Having now been in IT for the last three years, I've decided to get back into Engineering, and with my old company no less.  Funny how things work out.  Over the years, through work experience and various forms of education, I have collected a significant set of engineering and management skills. In addition to being technically skilled, I am also a good communicator and easy to get along with.  I'd like to think there's no one that I can't be professional with.

When I left the IT field one of the clients that I use to work with on a regular basis said, "People here have expressed their regret to hear your leaving. Others have felt the same as I did....you are a great person to work with. Very high regards all around about your work ethic."  I'm very proud that people would say such good things about me.

Here is a quick summary of my background.

- I have knowledge and practice in advanced statistical methods.
- I have extensive experience in a laboratory environment.
- I have experience working with suppliers.
- I have an extensive product and process development background.
- I am a capable project manager.
- I have a lot of knowledge and interest in computers.

Advanced Statistical Methods
My areas of knowledge include advanced statistical methods.  I am a trained and practiced 6-sigma green belt; I’ve conducted several process improvement projects using those techniques, including the use of Shainin Red-X tracker software to conduct and document the projects.  I regularly applied SPC to in house manufacturing processes and trained operators in machine operation and the use of X-bar-R charts to monitor process operation.  I'm trained in, and for years have used, Designed Experiments (DOE) to conduct process and product studies and research.  I’ve personally conducted many process capability studies; which were a regular part of our development process.

Laboratory and Testing
I have extensive experience in a laboratory environment.  I’ve headed up and developed entire product test programs; including, researching the industry standards, developing the test methods and equipment, conducting R&R studies on measurement systems, training and supervising lab technicians (permanent and temporary) and operators.

Suppliers
I have experience working with vendors and suppliers to establish product standards and quality control systems.  I’ve conducted informal audits of supplier quality systems and set up incoming inspection and certification standards.

Product and Process Development
I have an extensive product and process development background. I’ve worked with a telephone cable sheath repair product, a rubber insulation product and pilot process, UV curable paper and polyethylene silicone liner and related manufacturing process, assorted electrical/insulating tapes, double sided PE based foam tape product and processes.  I’ve been involved with the development of a heat shrink tubing line including related compounding, extrusion, irradiation, and expansion processes.  Much of this work includes hands on process development and working side by side with vendors at their locations.

Project Management
Through my project experience and education in project management I have developed into a solid project manager. That includes project scope definition, project cost estimation, risk assessment, conflict resolution, development of working schedules via cross functional/multidivisional teams, conducting project review meetings, and tracking and documenting the work.  Most recently, while in the IT field I actually did some work with Enterprise Project Management, including initial development on a custom Project Guide.

Computers
Well, I have this small web site that I maintain.  I have my Veshtzee game which I initially developed in Delphi and later redeveloped in C#.  During my three year stint in the IT field I worked with multi-tier enterprise applications; some development with Delphi, HTML, DHTML, JScript, and C#, use of SQL Server, DTS, developing OLAP data stores and cubes, and automated software test scripting. I did a few reports using Crystal Reports against the Microsoft Project enterprise database. I also headed up a project to convert multiple Delphi 5 applications to Delphi 7; as a stepping stone to a full .NET conversion.  So, although, my primary responsibilities while in the IT field were Quality Assurance, Customer Support, and Testing in general, I did much more than that.
